Worlds’ Stupidest Debates #2: CAN A BORN-AGAIN CHRISTIAN LOSE THEIR SALVATION?

Category: In the “Who Cares?” Department.

~In the days of the Old Wild West, a stagecoach company covered a route that went through an especially dangerous pass carved out of the rock high in the mountains. The path was level and firm, but narrow. A most straight and narrow path it was.

~To the left was the edge of the cliff, a huge drop off. The fall was so far and the gulch below so impenetrable that it was impossible to recover any bodies; the floor was littered with twisted skeletons and gruesome wreckage.

~To the right of the path was a solid rock wall.

~Every three or four months another stagecoach was lost and the company had to interview for a new driver. In fact, an interview is being conducted right now. Let’s listen in, shall we?

: The first candidate boasted to the interviewer: “I can drive three feet from the edge of the cliff and not fall off!”

He was dismissed.

: The second candidate boasted: “I can drive ONE foot from the edge of the cliff and not fall off!”

He was dismissed.

: The third candidate said: “I can drive six inches from the WALL.”

He was instantly Hired!

I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST in how far away from Jesus I can get and still make it to heaven. I only want to know one thing in life: “HOW CLOSE CAN I GET TO MY PRECIOUS SAVIOR?

  1. Hey Bro, I also am not concerned re ‘how close I can get to the edge of the cliff’ without falling off, so to speak, but rather when discussing the eternal security of the believer with an Armenian that we are eternally secure (in this dispensation, that is).. So, respectfully, I disagree with the premise of this article that this is one of the worlds
stupidest debates. Rather, I think it is close to being an essential doctrine of fundamental Christianity.

    1. Thank you for raising this important point.

I certainly did not mean to imply that those who share their views on this topic thereby demonstrate that they are interested in how far they can get from Jesus and still make it to Heaven.

But I do suggest that the topic itself is not worth debating because if someone is interested in how far they can get away and still be saved their spiritual issue far outweighs any theological issue. And if they are interested in how close they can get the theological issue doesn’t matter anymore.
